We require a complimentary virtual initial consultation for all prospective clients which lasts approximately 30 minutes. In this initial meeting, we determine the prospective client's needs, whether our firm provides the type of services required by the prospective client, and whether we believe our attorney-client relationship will be a mutual beneficial one. All consultations are confidential and regardless of whether you retain us. The only exception is the Corporate Transparency Act, for which are paid consultations.
Part of the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020, passed on January 1, 2021, its purpose is to root out those using shell companies to facilitate crimes such as terrorism, human trafficking, securities fraud, and drug trafficking. The CTA takes effect January 1, 2024. While you are not required to use an attorney to file your CTA report, we do recommend legal assistance with at least your first filing, as there are numerous unknowns and the penalties for non-filing and willful misfiling are significant. We charge a $400 consultation fee as these are substantive and in-depth consultations designed to determine exact filing requirements, beneficial ownership and exemptions.
Our team of attorneys has a high success rate representing clients in CRA contested case hearings. Contested case hearings are an administrative appeal heard by an administrative law judge. They are non-binding and do not foreclose the possibility of settlement, but we encourage challenging defensible preliminary compliance violations. These hearings are less expensive than litigation and can result in much lower fines and even dismissal.
